A storage area network (SAN) systems administrator is responsible for day-to-day network administration, optimizing storage resources, reporting on system health, upgrading components, managing data storage nodes, and maintaining the overall health of the storage system. The SAN systems administrator works to ensure that the storage area network provides several expected benefits: Storage and restore operations must appropriately store information for later retrieval and keep such information appropriately secured. Data integrity is maintained, and that backups are checked periodically. Additionally, the SAN system can be expanded to increase storage capacities to keep up with demand. Duties and Responsibilities:
Support design, build, and implementation of enhancements for the client's Storage Area Network (SAN) infrastructure. The current infrastructure includes 6-node NetApp 8040 cluster and EMC VNX 5400 storage arrays, with 1.4 PB of usable storage between arrays. The SAN fabric includes eight (8) Cisco 9513 chassis located at both the Primary Computing Facility (PCF) and Backup Computing Facility (BCF).Design and support complex technical SAN infrastructures, ensuring compliance with Federal regulatory requirements.Manage installation, upgrades, and application configurations of the SAN technical infrastructure, ensuring compliance with Federal regulatory requirements.Manage all tuning of client SAN technical infrastructure to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved as defined by client's Service Level Agreements established with their customers.Provide upgrade/migration plan(s) prior to upgrade/migration to later version(s) of COTS SW, to include risk, impact analysis and mitigation strategies.Set zoning configurations and switch domains, prepare new fiber switches to add to fiber network fabrics.Document storage systems flare code, fiber channel switch firmware, and SAN host SW version information and provide, at government request, to vendors for SAN upgrades.Install and configure storage system monitoring templates and make changes as needed.Utilize vendor utilities to migrate LUNs and storage pools as application data capacity requirements increase, and for onsite and offsite replication management as it relates to integration.Install additional disk arrays as utilization and storage demands increase.Identify changes in IO patterns and notify government technical lead of the change and what/how the IO pattern changed.Administer networks, servers and associated schedules.Manage, transform and provide user access to large datasets. Document processes, procedures, upgrades and problems. Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
Experience with Linux, NetApp, VMWare, EMC, Cisco, Windows, Disk Arrays / Mass Storage, and Disaster Recovery.Demonstrated ability to complete multiple, complex technical projects.Knowledge of storage administration and the concepts of file systems, disk partitions, mounts, quotas, mirroring, and sizing.Knowledge of Ethernet, IP, DNS and NIS associated daemons.Knowledge of network architectures including hubs, repeaters, bridges, routers, and switches.Proficiency in:SAN, Exchange, Databases (Oracle, SQL), DR/BC, Compliance or Grid ComputingProtocols including TCP/IP, NFS, SMTP, SNMP, FTP, HTTPRAID, Fiber Channel, SCSI, DLT Windows, Unix and/or System Administration skills on products such as NetApp, SUN, HP, IBM, EMC. Education and Certifications: BA/BS in relevant field (IT, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering).6-8 years IT systems administration experience, of which a minimum of 3 years must be in developing/maintaining data storage systems and SANs.NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA) and/or NetApp Certified Implementation Engineer (NCIE) preferred. Other related certifications a plus, e.g., ITILv3 Foundation Certified. Federal Government IT experience a plus.
